Words and Tears

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

This post was inspired by a book that I am currently reading called “Aleph” by the author of “The Alchemist” (Paulo Coelho).  "The Alchemist" is a book that I would highly recommend for everyone to read.  The only thing I can say is that there is much wisdom to be gained from taking a short amount of your life to read it.  "Aleph" has a different tone, but I have also found some profound thoughts in this book.  Although I will not go into detail about it, the description of the growth of a Bamboo plant caused me to find a parallel to how we as humans grow as individuals.  Enough said on that subject for now…. If your curiosity leads you there, and I hope that it will, you will experience it for yourself.  What I’d like to share is a quote that meant more to me than I can tell you.  I think that we as human beings often forget how important it is to communicate, and I mean really, truly communicate with each other.  I think that we forget that being open and honest in our communication, no matter how difficult, and no matter how inconvenient the timing may be, is essential to not only the individual, but even more so in relationships.  Who does not have their deepest needs and longings in being heard and understood by the people that love them?  Isn’t that what we are all trying to do… shout loud enough so that we can hopefully be heard when the rest of the world is so noisy and fast-paced and single-minded that we feel like that is the ONLY WAY THAT WE WILL BE HEARD???  And when people are not listening, (although some will pretend to listen) are we not brought to tears???  Which leads me to the quote which inspired this rambling…. :o)

“Words are tears that have been written down.  Tears are words that need to be shed.  Without them, joy loses all its brilliance and sadness has no end.  Thank you, then, for your tears.” -Paulo Coelho

My hope is that in understanding the immense importance of communication, that we will all take some time to slow down from the crazy pace that everyday life forces us into…. and take the time…. even just for a few moments at a time, to truly seek out the deepest desires and thoughts and hopes and dreams and concerns… and especially the pain that brings a heart to tears… of the ones that we love.
